Board approves $60,000 split for volunteer fire departments and $1,000 to Mutual Aid EMS

At the Nov. 20 meeting Salem Township supervisors approved a $60,000 General Fund disbursement to be split equally between Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department and Slickville Volunteer Fire Department. Supervisor Kerry Jobe said the payment is in addition to the township's 1% fire tax and is being paid from the General Fund to avoid raising taxes.
The board also approved a $1,000 donation to Mutual Aid Emergency Medical Services. Jobe summarized a prior presentation by Ken Bacha of Mutual Aid, saying the service has had about a 50–60% collection rate from insurers, receives reimbursement only when patients are transported, and experienced a 17% rate increase the prior year. The donation was described as a complimentary contribution in lieu of a formal $5 per capita request from municipalities.
