Salem Planning Commission to advertise informational meeting on SALDO amendments

The Salem Township Planning Commission voted on Oct. 2 to advertise a special informational meeting in November to solicit public comment on proposed amendments to the township’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO).
Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich urged prompt revisions to two SALDO provisions he said are priorities: (1) the provision allowing the township to charge solicitor, engineering and other fees associated with applications and to collect developer escrows, and (2) clearer definitions distinguishing minor and major subdivisions, land developments, and side-lot additions where sewage facilities planning does not apply. Falatovich said making those changes promptly "will solve a lot of problems with future developments" and would be fairer to both developers and residents.
Paul Holleran moved and John Durco seconded a motion to advertise the informational meeting; the motion passed unanimously. The commission also voted unanimously to adjourn and set the next regular meeting for Nov. 6, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., if there is an agenda.
Next steps: the commission will schedule the advertised informational meeting (timing in November to be finalized) and accept public comment on the proposed SALDO amendments before the Planning Commission moves toward formal ordinance changes.
