Families to donate memorial tree honoring longtime water operator Tim Hansen

Jodi Richardson read a written request from two families and asked the council to accept and approve a memorial tree and plaque to honor Tim Hansen, who served Huntsville as a culinary water operator and manager and who died June 28 after an extended illness. "Tim was an employee of Huntsville Town for many years," Richardson said as she described Hansen's service and ties to the community. The families proposed the park as the preferred site and offered to fund the tree and plaque.
Council members discussed dedicating one of the trees recently planted in the park or placing a tree as part of the landscaping for the new Town Hall. TCM Sandy Hunter suggested a small ceremony on next year's Arbor Day. TCM Artie Powell offered a friendly amendment that the council approve the memorial with the planting location to be determined; the amendment was accepted and the motion passed unanimously. The clerk will work with the family on the plaque wording and final site approval.
The council recorded the motion and will schedule the planting after confirming the precise site and plaque wording.
