Huntsville authorizes up to $20,000 for water-plant upgrades

The council authorized up to $20,000 for water-plant upgrades, including alarm-software setup, mapping work using JUB software and replacing the reservoir level sensor with an all-weather radar unit. Water Board Chair Ron Gault told the council that the lead-and-copper surveys "have been submitted to the state by the deadline" and that a persistent leak remains under investigation; council members agreed emergency funds could cover the upgrades.
Council approved the expenditure after discussion of reliability in cold weather: the ultrasonic level sensor currently in use stops working near -2°F and the radar unit would operate to -40°F, reducing winter reliability problems. The council asked staff to proceed and report back on installation timing and costs.
