RPC reports bus deliveries, $14.4M USDOT follow-up on Urbana street grant and plan for 25–30 bike counters

Staff reported that three buses from a multi-year procurement will arrive (delays since 2021) and that seven aging buses will be retired; last February the agency received three buses and the incoming three will restore fleet parity. "Yesterday, I received confirmation that we'll finally be getting the last 3 buses from sick cars that we have been waiting since 2021... we're getting only 3 buses at this time," the transit presenter said.
The same staff member said USDOT followed up on an application for a $14,400,000 grant submitted on behalf of the city of Urbana for the Lincoln Avenue Complete Street Improvement Project and described that as a positive sign. Staff also said a grant-funded demonstration included funds to buy permanent bike-counting stations; they expect to purchase about 25–30 counters (rough estimate) and noted a recurring ~$180 annual data-access fee per counter; partner municipalities including Urbana and Savoy have been contacted about siting and installation costs.
