Contractor inspects Middletown Cemetery pre-bid; town to accept onsite stone in repair quotes

A contractor who attended the Town of Winhall’s June 12 pre-bid inspection said he will include reuse of onsite material in his price estimates and provide a rendering to the town.

Jamie Dungfelder of Artisan Wolf, LLC, was the only contractor present at the 9:15 AM site visit at Middletown Cemetery and measured a mid‑19th‑century walled section that the board wants repaired. Select Board Member Elizabeth Grant asked him to submit a quote that includes two options: rebuilding the wall dry and rebuilding with reinforcing cement or fill. Dungfelder confirmed the left side of the entry gate measures 19 feet and the right side up to the tree measures 15 feet; he photographed the site and agreed to provide a rendering for the town’s review.

The board informed Dungfelder that the stones on site are town property and said he may reuse them and bring in additional stone as needed. The group also discussed repositioning stone pillars around the section and removing large tree trunks; E. Stuart Coleman (Chair) said the town will dispose of trunks removed during the work. Dungfelder asked about the submission deadline and was told proposals are due June 29 at 1:00 PM; the board said contracted work under the RFP must be finished by October 15, 2026.

The site visit was limited in scope: the board walked the Chandler family enclosure, discussed steps and stonework, and inspected the entry gate hardware and adjoining walls. Dungfelder suggested adding a washer to the top of the gate hardware to deter theft and confirmed he would include gate repairs in his rendering and bid documents.
