County staff brief commissioners on 14% projected BCBS premium increase; several closed sessions scheduled on insurance and related matters

Patrick and Jim presented the county’s BCBS renewal, telling commissioners that, if renewed without changes, the county’s current health plan would increase by approximately 14% effective June 1. Following the BCBS presentation, the board held a series of closed executive sessions under Kansas Open Meetings Act exceptions. The commission moved into a 10-minute non-elected-personnel session at 3:34 p.m. to discuss salaries (with DJ McMurry present) and reconvened at 3:42 p.m. The board then met in attorney-client session to discuss 911 funds from 3:42 to 3:46 p.m., and later held an attorney-client session from 3:47 to 4:00 p.m. to discuss PRMC leases and health-insurance matters; minutes record no formal action taken following those sessions.
Commissioners thanked the BCBS presenters for the explanation and indicated staff follow-up as needed to understand budget implications for an anticipated June renewal.
