The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commission voted to authorize payment of claims numbered 148732 through 148810 totaling $264,218.84 at its Jan. 6 meeting.
Chairman Mike Beausoleil said three large claims made up roughly $117,800 of the total: a Fire Department invoice for exhaust fans of $59,975.00, a $34,000 payment to the Metcalf Center for milling, and $23,918.00 to Search and Rescue. "I'll add that for that amount there were three big claims; the Fire Department had one for some exhaust fans for $59,975.00," Beausoleil said. CEO Bill Everett told commissioners he inspected the new ventilation installation and that electrical work by Peterson Electric (about $15,000–$18,000) will push the total for the project closer to $80,000. "I went down there last week and it's pretty nice," Everett said, noting the work was unbudgeted and will require adjustments at month-end.
Commissioner Hart moved to authorize the payments; Commissioner Gates seconded the motion, which carried 5-0. The meeting record shows the approved claims set includes the larger, unplanned expenditures; commissioners and staff said they will track end-of-month adjustments to the county budget.
