The Berkeley County Planning Commission voted to approve a rezoning request for a parcel near Highway 6 in Monks Corner that the applicant said will be used to establish a golf-cart business.
County planning staff told the commission the applicant revised the request from general commercial to the Rural Neighborhood Commercial (RNC) district to improve compatibility with surrounding uses; "As a result of that conformance, staff recommends approval," the staff presenter said. Applicant Charles Cannington (103 Penn Court, Monks Corner) appeared and identified himself for the record. No members of the public spoke for or against the request.
A commissioner moved to approve the rezoning and the motion was seconded; the chair called for the ayes and the motion carried. Staff noted that if the rezoning is approved the property would be held to RNC standards and would proceed to development review under that district.
