Council authorizes survey for two sidewalks after Tribe funding; design work planned for clinic-to-store route

The Martin City Council on April 9 authorized the mayor to sign a permission-to-survey form allowing KLJ to begin survey work on two sidewalk projects. Tonya Huber of KLJ told the council that the Oglala Sioux Tribe has secured funding for a sidewalk connecting the north housing area to the city park. She also said KLJ aims to finish design for a separate sidewalk from the IHS clinic to Dollar General by the end of the year, with bids expected in January or February and construction planned for next spring or summer.
Council moved to allow the mayor to sign the permission to survey so KLJ can start surveying both projects. The motion was made by Warren Peterson and seconded by Gloria Claussen; it passed unanimously. The council did not authorize construction funding at this meeting; the action approved only surveying and early design work.
