Winhall board approves ordering replacement Truck #2 to limit repair and trade-in losses

The Town of Winhall Select Board on March 18 authorized Highway foreman Trevor Dryden to order a replacement for Truck #2 to replace Kenny Chase’s 2020 tandem all-wheel-drive truck. Trevor told the board he "feels it’s time to go ahead and order the new Truck #2 to replace Kenny Chase’s 2020 Tandem allwheel-drive truck," citing concerns that repair costs will rise and trade-in value will fall after about six years.
Vice Chair Julie Isaacs moved to allow Dryden to place the order and Christie Boswell seconded; the motion passed. The authorization was raised alongside several other highway procurement items that the board approved, including RFPs for line striping, sand, gravel and paving. Boswell said the RFPs will be put out "if needed" and the paving RFP was amended to add separate consideration for a 30' x 90' paving addendum for the library parking lot.
The decision was framed as routine fleet management: Dryden said maintaining replacement timing reduces long-term repair exposure and preserves trade-in value. The board recorded no dissent on the truck authorization. The board’s approvals will let staff proceed to solicit bids per the approved RFPs and move forward with the truck procurement schedule.
