Solid Waste director rebuts online claims, outlines $10M bond and capital needs
Summary
Solid Waste director Chris Snowball responded to social-media assertions about the district’s finances, saying a $3M balance must be viewed against a $10M bond and roughly $500,000 in monthly expenditures and outlining capital needs including property acquisition and a $1.3M compactor purchase.

Commissioners invited the Solid Waste director to address circulating social-media posts about the district’s finances. Chris Snowball said posts had created a misleading narrative and described the district’s fiscal picture: “We have a $10,000,000 bond that’s out that we have to pay…our expenses, on a monthly basis, is, like, $500,000,” he said, noting that a $3,000,000 cash balance is not a large margin when measured against those obligations and upcoming service changes.
Snowball explained that the district faces capital pressures—purchasing adjacent property, accommodating traffic changes as other local facilities close, and a recent $1,300,000 landfill compactor purchase intended to buy more time. He said the district may need to reduce services or increase rates absent county support and thanked commissioners for their consideration of proposed transfers to make the district whole. He said he appreciated the commission “kinda working things out for us” while emphasizing the district’s ongoing constraints.
