Washington County commissioners approved a letter of concurrence July 28 supporting Fisher BioServices’ activation of 3.72 acres of Foreign‑Trade Zone (FTZ) #255 at a Frederick facility.
Linda Spence, financial programs administrator for the Department of Business and Economic Development, said the activation would allow Fisher to store and manage goods under FTZ rules and that Washington County has previously supported FTZ activations. "This activation allows the company to securely store and manage goods under foreign trade zone rules," she said. Staff noted the county’s FTZ acreage cap is 2,500 acres and that the county currently has about 36 acres activated by local companies.
Commissioners approved the concurrence by voice vote (5-0). Staff said supporting regional FTZ activity continues county efforts to attract and market foreign‑trade usage without a direct fiscal impact to Washington County.
