County approves voluntary reentry medical referral MOU to link inmates to community care

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners on March 25 approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Union Community Care (UCC) and PrimeCare Medical, Inc. to establish a voluntary referral process connecting inmates to community medical services upon release. The board recorded that the program has no cost to participants.
Commissioner Alice Yoder said she was "excited to pass a motion to approve a special partnership between LCP and UCC," calling it a "warm hand off referral process for inmates to access medical resources." She cited Centers for Disease Control and Prevention research noting that "the weeks following release are among the most dangerous for individuals’ health," saying coordinated reentry support can improve public health and safety. The MOU was approved unanimously.
