Commission approves annexation to bring water and sewer service for Northland Plastics

The commission approved an annexation enabling Northland Plastics to expand and access city water and sewer. Staff reported the annexation supports business expansion and that staff recommended approval; the commission voted to recommend annexation to the city.
Matt Zingchime of Northland Plastics described the business as a third-generation company founded in 1953 and said the owners purchased the business in 2020 and are pursuing growth. Planning Director Taylor noted a clerical correction on the agenda and explained that annexed land would take surrounding zoning; "this will have industrial zoning," Taylor said. When asked if state-level review had been completed, Taylor responded that the DOA has approved the annexation. The motion to approve was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
