Road and Bridge staff told the Commissioners Court on July 28 that recent heavy rains caused significant damage across north and south county roads, leaving some sections impassable and requiring barricades and repairs.
The Road and Bridge Director (S2) said crews hauled large quantities of tires from a collection site and estimated about "close to 1,500 or more" tires were packed into a single trailer load that was taken to Terlingua. Staff also described washouts on Agua Fillo Road, Ranch Road and Fulcher Road and noted that a maintainer was out to address Calamity Creek Road.
A potentially more sensitive utility issue emerged when staff reported an exposed 3-inch water supply line in Los Ranchos Estates located in the middle of the road; S2 said the water department supervisor will review maps so maintenance crews avoid breaking the line during repairs. The director said temporary measures (yellow "do not enter" ribbon and barricades) are in place where needed while crews plan longer-term fixes.
The report included an equipment status update: one new Western Star vehicle was in Pecos for repairs and the department is coordinating mechanics and vendors to restore service. No formal motions were required; commissioners asked staff to continue repairs and to keep the court updated on progress.
