Elections office schedules Sept. 15 open house, court approves Nov. 3 order and poll workers

Elections staff told the Commissioners Court on July 28 that the office will hold an open house on Sept. 15 for National Voter Registration Day to let residents see voting equipment, meet staff and learn how ballots are handled.
"We're going to have an open house on September 15 from 1 to 6PM here at Val Clark Beard," Elections Administrator (S3) said, adding that staff will set up equipment, explain chain-of-custody procedures and have presiding judges and alternates available. S3 said the office has processed about "100 ballot by mail applications for each election" since taking the post in August and emphasized that no reason is required for absentee or curbside voting.
The court approved the order and notice of election for the Nov. 3 general election and ratified the list of presiding election judges, alternates and central counting station personnel by motion. Elections staff asked the court to specifically approve an outreach plan that includes posters and 5,000 postcards to distribute countywide and outreach via radio and print.
The office said the open house aims to help residents who have questions about voter registration and the security of ballots and to increase transparency ahead of the general election.
