Florence County approves $150,000 infrastructure grant tied to Cheney Brothers expansion

Florence County Council on March 19 approved an amendment to the county's March 2022 fee agreement with Cheney Brothers, Inc. and authorized a $150,000 cash grant for eligible infrastructure costs tied to the company's expanded project, described in meeting materials as Project Longshot II.
County Administrator Kevin Yokim told council that the original fee agreement anticipated an investment of at least $59,500,000 and creation of 320 full-time jobs for Project Longshot I, with infrastructure credits beginning in 2025. "The Company has increased the size of the project and invested in excess of $108,000,000, and total new full-time jobs are anticipated to exceed 350," Yokim said, and the company now expects operations to commence in 2026. In light of the additional investment, the county moved to provide a $150,000 reimbursement grant for eligible infrastructure costs.
Councilman Willard Dorriety, Jr. made the motion to approve the amendment and grant; Councilman Andrew Rodgers, Jr. seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The resolution, recorded as Resolution No. 27-2025/26 in county minutes, updates the schedule of infrastructure credits to align with the project's revised timeline and documents the county's intent to support the expanded investment.
