SDDOT staff provided an informational update on the Flatwater Bridge lighting project, saying the project is advertised with a July 29 letting date on the department's website. Mike Beam, director of planning and engineering, told commissioners to expect contractors to review the advertisement and to ask questions through the contracting process.
Beam said that after commission consideration and contract routing, the department typically spends up to 30 days processing paperwork and then schedules preconstruction meetings. "So that would be something the contractors are bidding on... I think the earliest things would start probably be what I call the fall timeframe, meaning September," Beam said. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about phasing and completion dates; staff said those details are included in contract provisions and offered to provide additional information at the next formal meeting.
The briefing was presented as information only; no action was required or taken.
