SDDOT approves $524,000 bid for Highway 79 concrete pavement repairs

The South Dakota Department of Transportation Commission voted to award project 4, a concrete pavement repair contract on Highway 79 from Maverick Junction to Buffalo Gap. Sam Weisgram, Office of Project Development, said Reconstruction was the low bidder with a $524,000 proposal; the engineer's estimate was $399,000.
"This project consists of concrete pavement repair on Highway 79 from Maverick Junction to Buffalo Gap," Weisgram said. He noted that only two bids were received and that staff found the pricing justifiable for the work. The commission approved the staff recommendation on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Staff told the commission there were few viable options to revise plans that would have likely led to improved bid results. Contracts will be routed to the successful bidder and preconstruction scheduling will follow SDDOT procedures.
