Court renews agreement with StarCare for veterans mediation services

The court authorized the county judge to sign an agreement with StarCare Specialty Health Systems (and VetStar) to provide dispute‑resolution and mediation services for veterans served through the Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) program. A StarCare representative described the arrangement as a renewal and asked the court to continue support.
"This is a renewal of our arrangement with StarCare and VetStar, for veterans mediation services," the StarCare representative said, adding that the program serves about 70 veterans out of an overall caseload near 3,000 in the last fiscal year. The representative said the county program is unique in the state for offering mediation tied to criminal cases involving veterans and noted plans to seek additional funding from the Texas Veterans Commission to reach veterans not covered by the current contract.
Court members praised the program. The presiding officer recounted a mediation outcome in which returning veterans helped clean a participating veteran's property so that municipal fines were resolved and the veteran received support. The court approved the authorization by motion without recorded opposition.
