Domestic violence shelter urges maintenance of county support after 400-plus calls

Ronnie Snyder, executive director of Celebrate Forever Families, told commissioners that the shelter is the only emergency domestic-abuse shelter in Kaufman County and asked that the county continue funding at last year’s level. “Last year, we filled it over 400 calls for service. We sheltered almost 100 total women and children in our shelter,” Snyder said.
Snyder described the shelter’s operations — year-round services, six full-time and one part-time employee — and emphasized the program’s role beyond sheltering, including transportation to appointments, in-house therapy and job-training partnerships. The county did not make any funding commitments at the meeting and said it will prioritize requests after reviewing preliminary budget numbers.
