Commissioners OK switch from City of Amarillo training site to Amarillo College

Potter County authorized staff to terminate an annual contract with the City of Amarillo for use of the city's fire-training facility and to enter a new agreement with Amarillo College's fire training center. County staff said the city contract cost roughly $800 per month (about $10,000 a year) and that the college's fee schedule is expected to reduce costs in most years, though some years may be similar when multiple large training sessions occur.
"We are expecting to save quite a bit of money with moving over to Emerald College," the fire department representative said, adding that funds are budgeted for training and the county judge was authorized to execute the new agreement. The court approved both the termination and the new contract by voice vote (5-0).
