Court approves $2,650 ARPA amendment to add mental-health training for first responders

The county considered an amendment to an ARPA-funded interlocal agreement with Amarillo College to add partial funding ($2,650) for a mental-health training course for first responders (projected total course cost $30,000). Advisory committee representative John Kill said the county had set aside $15,000 for estimated additional contract costs through Dec. 31, 2026 and recommended approving the amendment; he said the college must countersign the county’s written notice before the amendment takes effect.
The program is intended for first responders across the Panhandle; John said the course had sold out quickly and would benefit many local agencies. Commissioners approved the amendment and authorized the county judge to send written preapproval to Amarillo College, 5–0.
