Commissioners approve $45,005 asbestos change order to consolidate work under single contractor

Parker County commissioners on May 2 approved a construction contract change order to add asbestos abatement work to the primary contractor on the Johnson Bend and Green Acres project.
Engineering staff explained that the same contractor had bid both the road/demolition work and a separate abatement solicitation; consolidating the asbestos abatement under the primary contract keeps a single contractor responsible for demolition and abatement. The recommended change order amount was $45,005.29, which the presenter said will increase the previously awarded contract of $576,006.99 to a new total of approximately $622,002.28.
Commissioner Holt moved to approve the change order; Commissioner Walden seconded and the court voted 5–0 in favor. Staff said the consolidation will streamline construction sequencing and reduce coordination complexity between separate contractors.
