The commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing Black Balloon Day (overdose awareness) and a separate proclamation declaring March 2025 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Jessica Castro (public advocate) and others described local observances and community remembrance activities.
Cindy Wright, a colorectal cancer survivor and advocate, described her diagnosis: “In 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer,” she said, and explained that screening caught the cancer despite lack of symptoms. Wright urged residents — including younger adults — to get screened and described noninvasive testing options. The court thanked the presenters and approved the proclamations 5-0.
