Commissioners were told Dec. 10 that the Lou Jones solar project is scheduled for review by the Board of Supervisors next Tuesday.
During commissioners’ comments, Mr. Bassett said "That is going to the board next week, next Tuesday," and confirmed the project had been deferred earlier to the December meeting. Several commissioners reported participating in site tours with a solar company to learn about operations.
The discussion moved to maintenance and safety practices at solar sites. Commissioners said maintenance varied across installations — some operators pay landowners to maintain vegetation or use sheep for grazing underneath panels; others appear overgrown. One commissioner referenced a recent fire at the Reeves Road site, noting it underscored the need for vegetation management and consistent maintenance practices.
The commission did not take action on the Lou Jones project at the meeting; staff noted the item will be considered by the Board of Supervisors at the indicated session next week.
