Merchant opposes downtown green space; commissioners plan more public outreach before finalizing lease

The court considered authorizing a lease for a downtown annex parking lot to host a 2nd Saturday market and create a new green space. Merchant Mandy Adams, who said she owns a shop on the corner of Spring and York, objected to the location and told commissioners it "remains the fullest throughout the entire day" and that taking spaces would make short visits harder for elderly customers and quick stop shoppers. "It prevents my store from being a quick in and out experience," Adams said, asking the court to consider placing green space at the back of the lot instead.
Project representative Lindsey responded that the city of Weatherford has recommended the central location and that public informational meetings will continue: "We will have a series of public informational meetings... and so it'll be a very integral part." Commissioners discussed parking management options such as time limits and working with merchants to identify alternative employee parking. The court tabled final commitments and asked staff to continue outreach and to incorporate an out‑clause and maintenance language in any lease.
