Sam Grama, from the project development office, presented results from two recent lettings. He said the May 20 opening included 10 contracts with low bids totaling $8,096,000 — about 2 percent below the engineering estimate — and staff recommended awards for projects 1–5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 after bid review. "The low bids for those 10 contracts on May 20, total 8,096,000, which was a 164,000 or 2% below the engineers estimate of 8,260,000," Grama reported.
Grama then described the May 27 letting (project 6), where BX Veil and Construction was the lone bidder at $5,586,000, about 3.8 percent below the engineer's estimate, for installation of dynamic message signs at 16 locations. Commissioners asked operational questions; staff explained message content is typically prepared by field offices using stock messages and that boards are updated remotely. A roll-call vote approved the recommended awards; one commissioner recused from the DMS vote because of the conflict disclosed earlier.
