Commission sets April 23 hearing on Lincoln County speed-zone rule

Carla Engle, legal counsel with the South Dakota DOT, asked the Transportation Commission to set a public hearing on proposed amendments to Administrative Rule 70 0 1 0 2 44 to revise the speed limit on State Trunk Highway 115 in Sioux Falls. "I am requesting today that the commission set a hearing date for amendments to administrative rule of South Dakota 70 0 1 0 2 44," Engle said, and asked the commission to schedule the hearing for the next regular meeting on April 23.
Commissioners approved the recommendation to set the hearing date on a motion, and the roll call recorded the motion as carried. Engle said the requested change stems from a city-installed lower speed zone on the same segment and from negotiations over future jurisdiction as South Veterans Parkway construction proceeds. The hearing will give the public and local officials an opportunity to present testimony before the Commission considers any rule change.
Next steps: the Commission will formally notice the April 23 hearing and accept written and in-person testimony at that session. The rule under consideration was identified in the meeting as Administrative Rule 70 0 1 0 2 44 (Lincoln County speed zone).
