The South Dakota Department of Transportation Commission voted to award contracts for projects 1 through 7 and projects 10 and 11 from the May 6 bid opening at its May 15, 2026 conference‑call meeting.
Sam Weisgram, presenting planning and engineering recommendations for the department, said the May 6 opening produced 47 bids across 11 contracts and that “low bids totaled $26,380,000, which is $345,000 or 1.3% below the engineer's estimate of $26,725,000.” He told commissioners the department completed a review and recommended awarding the listed contracts because the bids and bidder qualifications supported award.
The Chair called for a motion; Commissioner Valley moved to approve the awards and Commissioner Roby seconded. The commission approved the motion by roll call.
Commissioners and staff did not raise objections during the discussion. The commission’s action authorizes department staff to execute the contracts and proceed to project delivery under the bid terms and schedules provided in the procurement packets.
