The Lawrence City Budget & Finance Committee voted July 28 to send authorization to expend a $250,000 earmark from Representative Frank Moran for supplemental costs associated with city bridge projects to the full council with a favorable recommendation.
Elia Elise Reyes said the $250,000 is intended as supplemental “patchwork” and design funding for the Daisy Street bridge; the bridge has been identified as critical by MassDOT and will require larger-scale state funding for full replacement. Reyes emphasized that this earmark will not replace the bridge in full but will permit the city to make interim repairs and to proceed with design work.
Councilor Mark LaPlante recalled a local dedication for the bridge and asked that the official name (referenced in the packet) and signage be preserved during forthcoming work; the city engineer said MassDOT uses numeric identifiers for its records but staff can forward the local name to MassDOT for documentation. The committee moved the item to the full council and approved it by roll call.
