Committee approves state grants for Child Advocacy Center; county says larger award was rescinded statewide

The Orange County Human Services Committee voted to accept two state grants to support the county Child Advocacy Center.
Committee member Michael Amo moved to accept and appropriate $85,400 awarded through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services for the Multi-Disciplinary Team/Child Advocacy Center (fourth-quarter amount for Oct.–Dec. 2025). Glenn R. Ehlers moved to accept $22,700 awarded through the New York State Office of Victim Services for the same period. Both motions were seconded and carried with all members present voting in favor.
Lacey Trimble, Commissioner of Social Services and Mental Health, said the OCFS five-year grant totals $1,707,985 with $341,597 earmarked per contract year and that the OVS total is $90,799.08 under a one-year extension available through Sept. 30, 2026. Trimble explained the county had been notified of a larger award but that the additional funds were rescinded statewide because of a procurement issue; the current requests reflect the original contracted amounts and staff are hopeful the additional funds could be restored later.
The motions were recorded as carried unanimously by members present; one legislator (Tuohy) was excused from the meeting.
