Staff briefs commission on dozens of commercial and industrial projects under way in Dinwiddie

County planning staff gave commissioners a broad development update outlining commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects currently under review or construction across Dinwiddie County.

Planning staffer Morgan Ingram reviewed projects including the Sheets project nearing completion, sports-complex courts awaiting landscaping, the Wawa project (phase 1 erosion-and-sediment work complete and utilities installation imminent), and the Dollar General in Ford now in phase-1 construction. Ingram also covered industrial activity: the Dinwiddie Industrial Park (about 29 acres, several spec buildings), a CapEx truck service shop on Simpson Road, a Dominion Energy propane storage site on Hoffheimer Way, and a Lumen fiber-node expansion near the Food Lion on Route 1. "We are just waiting on some landscaping to go in," Ingram said of several projects and added staff is managing erosion-and-sediment and stormwater inspections through contracted engineering firms while recruiting permanent staff.

Ingram noted other commercial activity such as Dinwiddie Dental, Cedar Lane and Company coffee shop and a new local office building off Route 460. She also described ongoing work at the Sutherland market site and sign permitting questions related to refacing versus new signage. Commissioners asked about stormwater capacity and permit oversight; Ingram said the county uses contracted engineers for VSMP inspections and that staff maintains certification to provide interim coverage until permanent hires are made.
