Public Health warns of rising RSV, COVID and flu B as staffing gaps persist

Public Health Director Alyssa Broome-Quissimisse updated the Human Services Committee on staffing plans and disease trends.
Brome-Quissimisse said the department currently has two vacancies and is recruiting for a Public Health Nurse to support immunization and TB programming and an Early Intervention and Preschool Coordinator (either a Public Health Specialist or a Public Health Nurse). She said she and committee member Leigh MacKerchar are applying to the Public Health Leadership Academy.
On disease trends, Broome-Quissimisse reported Yates County is in its sixth month of respiratory-disease season with two months remaining and that the county is seeing increases in RSV, COVID and flu B. The department will draft a resolution proclaiming Public Health Week April 6–12.
The report was accepted as information by the committee; the committee agreed to consider staff recommendations and draft resolutions at the Legislative Meeting.
