IDA flags manufacturing prospects and rail project review as renewable projects stall

Jamie Johnson told the committee the IDA had seen large renewable energy projects placed on hold, saying, "We've we've seen, already in the past year $2,000,000,000 worth of renewable energy projects we placed on hold until 2028, or maybe out further because of of the regulatory and policy environment in DC." He linked federal regulatory uncertainty to delays and emphasized the IDA is tracking prospects.
Johnson also described a rail-industry technical review: the Federal Railroad Administration asked Alstom and Norfolk Southern to revisit a freight-engine design that included a battery component and "see if there's ways to remove the battery component," he said. Johnson said the county expected further developments and that the IDA is working with manufacturing prospects and regional partners while monitoring the outcomes of federal review processes.
He also noted an upcoming manufacturing exchange event in Corning scheduled for the coming Friday featuring the New York Fed and the New York State Department of Labor as presenters.
