County Attorney Tyler Southall asked the board to authorize him to sign agreements with the Sackler family to implement the county's previously approved participation in the Purdue bankruptcy package. Southall said outside counsel supported the bankruptcy package but that the Sackler-family agreements were requiring the county attorney, rather than outside counsel, to sign.
"Back in August, you approved a resolution for the county to enter into a settlement with the Sackler family, and to approve of the Purdue bankruptcy package ... this resolution pretty much says what your August resolution said ... and then authorizes me as the county attorney to sign anything necessary with the Sackler family to further the settlement," Southall said.
The board approved the authorization by roll call (all voting aye). No new settlement amounts or schedules were discussed during the Nov. 18 meeting; Southall framed the item as an administrative authorization to complete previously agreed settlement steps.
