Committee members urge the court to accept study work and expand membership to address jail needs

Members of the justice center committee told the commissioners they had spent more than a year conducting site evaluations with architects and engineers and that the work should inform court action. One committee member said the committee "didn't just ignore the poor farm" and that infrastructure costs for each candidate site have already been analyzed in executive session.
Committee members asked either to add the sheriff and other stakeholders to the existing committee or to form a separate committee focused on the jail so the sheriff’s office can provide technical input. The court gave direction to return with a scope, membership adjustments and schematic deliverables and set the next review for May 12, 2025. The consultant said the team could deliver sufficient material to begin public education in time for a November 2025 bond if the court provides marching orders by the May meeting.
