University of Houston researcher: IPV homicides rose sharply; county to improve data collection

Dr. Elizabeth Gregory, director at the University of Houston Institute for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, said her institute’s 2023 report recommended expanded infrastructure to document intimate-partner violence and guide policy. Gregory said the report drew on interviews with shelter leadership and survivors and that "one of our findings was that IPV homicides had doubled in our region between 2019 and 2022."
County officials said the new initiative will support better data sharing across shelters and providers so that researchers and policymakers can have a fuller picture of intimate-partner violence in the region. Gregory said improved data collection will enable more targeted prevention and service delivery.
