County celebrates Manufacturing Month, highlights Texas Fast Track expansion to West Side

Bexar County Commissioners Court used several ceremonial agenda slots on Oct. 14 to recognize Manufacturing Month and highlight workforce programs such as Texas Fast Track and Texas FAME/AMT. County economic development staff and partners from Toyota Texas, Avansar Interiors, Workforce Solutions Alamo, Goodwill and other employers described employer-driven training pathways and local partnerships.
Deborah Carter of the county’s economic and community development team said the county is placing training closer to underserved West Side neighborhoods by leveraging neighborhood facilities. "We have households within a 20‑minute walking distance that we think would really qualify and be great applicants for the program," she said. A Texas Fast Track graduate, Roman Sanchez, told the court his first year with a local employer produced a six‑figure annual salary and helped his family upgrade housing and schooling options. Toyota Texas’ Carla Underwood and JCB's David Carver described hiring program alumni and upcoming plant expansions.
