The Lubbock County Commissioners Court approved a $10,000 donation to the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) from the county's §74.601 unclaimed funds during its Oct. 14 meeting.
Marion Fontaine, associate director of the CAC, and John Worflein, education and prevention coordinator and forensic interviewer, described the agency's role coordinating multidisciplinary child‑abuse investigations and delivering the Play It Safe curriculum in area schools. Fontaine told the court the CAC serves Lubbock County and 14 surrounding counties and that outreach funds would expand school visits and safety education for pre‑K through 12th grade.
Judge Parrish moved to donate $10,000 from the Section 74.601 fund; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Rackler and passed without opposition. Fontaine said the funds would be used for outreach and school programming and provided contact information for agencies and schools requesting the curriculum.
Why it matters: The CAC provides forensic interviews and coordinates investigations among law enforcement, child protective services and other partners; local funding supports prevention programming in schools and countywide outreach. The donation is payable from a dedicated unclaimed‑fund line and was presented as an annual request for community programming.
