Court authorizes $5M state grant application for DHA South Beach Pavilion renovation

The Commissioners Court approved a resolution authorizing submission of a $5,000,000 grant application to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission in support of the Defense Health Agency’s South Beach Pavilion renovation at Joint Base San Antonio. Commissioners said the project—estimated at more than $30 million—has the city and county each committing $10 million as local match and that the DHA is prepared to pick up potential cost overruns.
"This facility renovation is going to house up to 1,000 new Defense Health Agency personnel," Commissioner Moody said, adding that the project represents an economic development opportunity for San Antonio and Bexar County. County staff reported coordinated work with the city and DHA and thanked several county staff and city officials for contributions to the draft application and local support. The court voted to submit the application and accept awarded funds if received.
