In the 7 p.m. portion of the meeting the board presented proclamations and awards recognizing longtime county employees and volunteers.
Benjamin "Ben" James Jones II was honored for 38 years with the Dinwiddie County Water Authority; the clerk read a proclamation detailing his operational leadership and service contributions. The board then recognized Charles Eugene "Gene" Jones Jr. for nearly 23 years of county service, noting his oversight of major county projects including a sports complex, government center construction and volunteer fire department renovations. The board also presented the first Lifetime Achievement Award to Betty Bowen in recognition of decades of volunteer work preserving the county’s history and supporting youth and civic projects; a House of Delegates representative presented a certificate on behalf of the Commonwealth.
Each resolution passed by roll call with all members voting aye. The events included short remarks from colleagues, family and state representatives.
