County facilities staff reported multiple ongoing warranty problems at the new Santa Fe building, including broken entry doors and a noisy elevator that commissioners described as potentially unsafe. Facilities director Chris said warranty vendors have been slow to respond because of scheduling and lead times; staff will conduct an 11th‑month warranty walk‑through with the general contractor and file claims as appropriate.
Commissioners pressed for faster resolution. "If we go past the statute of limitations, our hands are tied on claims," one commissioner said, and another argued the elevator should be shut down until a diagnostic is done. Chris said two of three door issues are waiting on ordered parts and that the elevator problem is an open warranty claim; he is scheduling a warranty review with the general contractor on the 11‑month mark.
The court instructed the county attorney and facilities staff to pursue warranty remedies aggressively and to return with a status update before the warranty expiration date. Staff also reported other project updates: ARPA‑funded water chillers for the Santa Fe Building have arrived; a record center floor pour was delayed by weather but expected to resume.
