Extension reports Farm School, Farm Boot Camp, large livestock show and upcoming Pond Clinic and Farm Tour

Extension and Ag Economic Development staff reported the NC Farm School and Farm Boot Camp are underway, first responder training took place, the Central Piedmont Livestock Show on April 7–8 expects over 350 entries, a Pond Clinic is scheduled May 16, and the Piedmont Farm Tour is April 25–26 with about ten Orange County farms.
Ortosky gave an update on Extension and agricultural economic development activities: the NC Farm School and Farm Boot Camp are underway, training was provided for first responders on working with farm animals, and one apprentice operation moved on to start its own farm. Staff reported the Central Piedmont Livestock Show is scheduled for April 7–8 on Orange Grove Road and is expected to host over 350 entries, the largest show since the COVID pandemic.
Staff also announced extension‑related activities in the coming weeks: Soil and Water will co‑host a Pond Clinic with Durham County on May 16 at 6602 Orange Grove Road, and the annual Piedmont Farm Tour will be held April 25–26 with about ten Orange County farms participating. Perrin reminded members that fire ant bait spreaders are available for rent and noted the Ag Grant program received eight applications this cycle.
