APB told Planning will reactivate consultant for Land Use Plan 2050; public input sessions set for fall

Peter Sandbeck briefed the Agricultural Preservation Board on progress with the county's Land Use Plan 2050. Planning has held four informational work sessions with the Board of County Commissioners since presenting the initial plan, and staff plans to reactivate the consultant to revise the draft based on BOCC feedback. New public input sessions are planned for fall and staff aims to release an updated plan document in early 2027.
Sandbeck and APB members discussed outreach challenges, including concern that the current draft is not readily available on the county website and the need for APB members to understand distinctions between prime soils and locally important soils as the plan is finalized. Staff also asked APB members to help recruit farm community members to attend the BOCC presentation of the APB's final plan; April 19 was mentioned as a potential BOCC presentation date in Hillsborough.
