BLM and Forest Service updates: Lamoille Summit trailhead and fuels project
Summary
Staff reported BLM staked the Lamoille Summit Trail System trailhead ahead of construction and relayed USFS plans to issue a final EA and draft decision for the East Humboldt and Ruby Mountains fuels project; a fuelwood distribution project for tribal elders and seniors was also described.
Under agenda items for federal land‑management partners, commission staff recapped a Bureau of Land Management district update: staking was completed for the Lamoille Summit Trail System trailhead and construction was expected to begin the following week. The staff member described recent BLM cooperation on water planning and thanked the agency for support in the area.
The U.S. Forest Service update (relayed by staff) noted that Deputy District Ranger Wendy Markham would return and that the Forest Service anticipates issuing a final environmental assessment and draft decision for the East Humboldt and Ruby Mountains fuels project. Staff also said the Forest Service is working on a recreational trails program (RTP) grant and a fuelwood project intended to distribute material to tribal elders and some seniors through county human services and the fire district.
