A commissioner moved and the board approved authorization for the Elko County Fire District to refurbish a 2012 International wildland crew carrier, with refurbishment costs capped at $65,000.
The district’s assistant told the board they purchased the crew carrier intending to reuse the box and possibly remount it; after inspection, the assistant said "the chassis is actually in pretty good shape," and recommended taking it down for refurbishment ahead of the coming wildland season. A commissioner said he had reviewed photos and discussions with a staff member named Matt and that Matt "was convinced that this would save the county a lot of money rather than buying something new."
