Hall County Board of Tax Assessors elects new chair and vice chair

The Hall County Board of Tax Assessors elected Jennifer Pettitt as chair and Casey Ryals as vice chair during its Jan. 7, 2026 meeting in Gainesville. The board also appointed Interim Chief Appraiser John Smith as secretary; each motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
The elections were conducted under O.C.G.A. procedures cited in the meeting (GA. 48-5-298(a)). The motion to elect Pettitt as chair was made by Casey Ryals and seconded by Richard Higgins; the motion to elect Ryals as vice chair was made by Higgins and seconded by Pettitt. The motion to appoint John Smith as secretary was made by Ryals and seconded by Pettitt.
The formal votes were recorded in the minutes as 5-0 for each action. The board moved on to executive session after the elections and returned at 5:43 p.m.
