Design Review Board approves Val Nova Pump 1 common-area landscaping with added trees

Don Leslie, the landscape architect and project manager for the Val Nova Pump 1 landscaping application (DR-2025-79), presented plans showing open-space compliance, trail and sidewalk connections, a Glencarra Parkway buffer, mailbox configurations, and a lighting plan using Class B 15-foot poles at 3,000 Kelvin. Leslie told the board the design meets or exceeds open-space requirements and minimizes required fencing.
Board members raised questions about tree species and size; one member asked if larger class 3 trees and additional evergreen species could be included. Don Leslie agreed to modify the plant palette, and planning staff Barb Williams confirmed the submittal met staff requirements. The board moved to approve the application with staff site-specific conditions 1–6 and added condition 7 to include class 3 trees and condition 8 to add additional evergreen trees to the palette, both to be reviewed by staff and one board member. The motion carried unanimously.
